Windows® 7 Release
With Windows 7 Release Candidate, Microsoft has also provided guidance on the minimum system requirements for Windows 7, indicating that Windows 7 will work on a broader array of hardware than any other edition of Windows.
Here are the minimum system requirements for installing Windows 7:
- 1GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
- 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
- 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
- DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
Follow the given instruction to perform a clean install of Windows 7 RC:
STEP 1. You can download the Release Candidate and get your own product key till July, 2010. To do so, visit Microsoft Windows 7 download page.
STEP 2. Once you've downloaded the file, which comes as a disc image called an ISO, you'll need to burn it into a DVD.
Note: The Windows 7 Release Candidate is built to install the Ultimate edition, even though Microsoft will probably release as many versions of Windows 7 as there were of Windows Vista.
STEP 3. Insert the Windows 7 RC installation disc into computer’s DVD/CD drive and boot from it. If the Windows setup page doesn’t appear and you’re not asked to press a key to start from DVD or CD, you might have to configure BIOS setting so that your system uses its DVD/CD drive as the startup device. After you set up your DVD or CD drive as the startup device, reboot your computer, and then start Windows from the Windows 7 DVD or CD as described above.
STEP 4. Next click on “I accept” on the License term page because without accepting it you can’t proceed further.
STEP 5. Choose Custom installation type on the next page (Recommended).
STEP 6. Install Windows on a specific hardware partition if you have created one.
STEP 7. After that you will see Installing Windows screen. The setup will go through the process here and copy files, expand files, install features, install updates and complete the installation. Do not interrupt the setup process in between. It will take around 45 minutes and can be same as Vista setup. Enter your User & Computer Name when asked to do, then select next. Type your serial key. Select your update settings. Change Time & Date settings if necessary then select your Wireless network from the list and security key if applicable.
Note: Once you’re done with the installation you can go ahead and configure the desktop & computer settings.
