Windows® 7 Upgrade Options
The Windows 7 upgrade option facilitates licensed end users of chosen Microsoft Windows Vista operating system edition to get an upgrade license to the appropriate Windows 7 edition if the program qualifications are met by a user.
How can you receive your Windows 7 upgrade?
If a Microsoft offer form is received by you when you purchased your qualifying Windows Vista computer, you can order your upgrade for free. There’s one other type of eligibility notice too which you can receive from your computer manufacturer.
A Microsoft form can be included by computer manufacturers with computer’s distributed with qualifying Windows Vista versions preinstalled or on after June 26, 2009. If your computer is already installed with Windows Vista ultimate, Windows Vista Business, or Windows Vista Home Premium and you have purchased it on and after June 26, 2009 but the described form is not included in it, verify for it with computer manufacturer to see if your PC is the part of the Upgrade Option Program.
If you are part of the Upgrade Option Program, follow PC manufacturer’s instructions to obtain your upgrade. Participation by computer manufacturers in Upgrade Option Program is optional, but it is a unique method of fulfilling Windows 7 Upgrade requests.
Qualifying Windows Vista Product Edition
For each upgrade path, the corresponding upgrade version for the qualifying product will be endorsed. Upgrade media will be product edition and edition specific which should corresponds to qualifying product edition.
The upgrade may be available for the following Windows Vista Versions:

The Upgrade will not be available for the following editions:
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic
- Windows Vista Starter Edition
- Windows XP (all editions)
Separate Upgrade media will be required by platform and territory-specific versions. The Windows Vista Upgrade can only possible to the associated edition of Windows 7. A language version can only be upgraded to the same language version of the Windows 7 upgrade software.
Users who have downgraded to Windows XP from Windows Vista edition are also eligible for this program. However, you require a clean installation of the upgrade media unless you use recovery media to install the original Windows Vista edition pre-installed on your PC. In that case you can directly upgrade to Windows 7.
