SXSW updates for Windows® Phone 7 users
South by Southwest (SXSW), an annual trade show featuring interactive, music, and film events, is being held in Austin, Texas from March 9 to March 18, 2012. Well, if you have a Windows Phone and you are attending conference sessions or other events, you can get the schedule right there on your mobile. This has been made possible with the SXSW Go app for Windows Phone 7-based mobiles. You can download SXSW Go app from Windows Phone Marketplace. There’s more than just the schedule of events that SXSW Go offers. You can access maps to get directions for reaching the venues, and search events by entering keywords based on the shows, speakers, venues, and exhibitors. SXSW Go also keeps you updated with posts related to various events on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and YouTube.
For Windows Phone 7 enthusiasts, Microsoft and Nokia are showcasing the new Lumia 900 smart phone at their booths. At SXSW, a multi-dome structure houses Nokia Lab, where visitors can check out the Windows Phone 7-powered Lumia mobiles. At the bar, there’s a special cocktail inspired by the Lumia phones. To highlight the social networking integration of Windows Phones, there’s a picture shootout event where attendees snap a picture with their phone and upload it to Facebook. This is timed against doing the same thing on a Windows Phone.
At SXSW Interactive on March 12, the textPlus messaging app for Windows Phone 7.5 was released. textPlus Beta allows free text messaging between users of the app and it works regardless of the platform or location. What’s more, textPlus users can text messages to people even without the app, provided it’s a US or a Canadian phone number. Other features of textPlus include free group texting, a textPlus phone number, live tiles, and lots more. So go ahead, download textPlus and send unlimited text messages for free.
