Windows® Phone 7.5 Refresh update from Microsoft®
Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh, the new version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system is all set to be launched officially. It is expected that Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh will be available in China by March 21, 2012 through the HTC Triumph smartphone. Earlier Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh was referred by its code name, that is, the Windows Phone 7.5 Tango update. Here we discuss the features of Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh and mobiles that will get this update.
Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh supports low-end devices
With Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh, Microsoft aims to target customers who want to buy economical smartphones with advanced features. Previously most of the Windows Phones were premium products with a high price range. Steep hardware requirements for Windows Phones, which included a 1GHz processor and 384MB of RAM, were a major factor that contributed to the cost of mobiles.
Now, with Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh, Microsoft has lowered the hardware requirements that have to be met by mobile manufacturers. The minimum RAM needed for the update will be 256MB. This has resulted in a decrease in the cost of mobiles with Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh. What it means is that there would be more Windows Phones at various price points, thus offering customers a wider choice of models to choose from. Also, Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh will be adopted by other vendors as well, apart from the existing ones.
How will apps perform on Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh
In a post on the Windows Phone Developer blog, Microsoft’s Mike Battista outlined the best practices that need to be followed by app developers to optimize their programs for mobiles that will feature Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh. According to Battista, some apps may slow down on lower cost phones and will need to be optimized by developers for better performance. It has been suggested that the startup time and memory usage for the apps should be reduced by developers. It is expected that Windows Phone 7.5 will decrease the amount of the available RAM.
Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh smartphones
Some of the mobiles that will have the Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh update include HTC Triumph, HTC HD2, and Nokia Lumia 610. HTC Triumph that has been released in China is basically the HTC Titan mobile that is available in the United States. The new Windows Phone update is available for HTC HD2 and as per the initial reports, it enhances the performance of the smartphone. Nokia Lumia 610 is another mobile that is powered by Windows Phone 7.5. Its configuration includes an 800 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, and 8 GB internal memory.
