BSkyB releases Sky Player for Microsoft® Media Centre
BSkyB has declared the release of its Sky Player for Microsoft Media Centre which features in Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate by default.
The tool will enable users to access Live TV, on demand movies and sport. According to tech website Neowin, only paying Sky customers will be able to avail the service which will be available as an online Sky Player multiroom subscription for £5 per month.
The users who already have this subscription or who are using Sky Broadband Unlimited can view the live channels for free. The deal already includes on demand content.
On the other hand, non Sky customers will have to shell out £15 per month for the "Base entertainment" package which excludes the cost of line rental if you plan to get ADSL-based broadband to your premises.
The service is apparently for beta currently and Sky has promised that it will launch it by the end of year as an early Christmas bonanza. It is notable that the system, because of the resources it require, will not offer HD content yet.
