XBOX® Companion app for Windows® Phone
Ever imagined that you could control the XBOX console from your Windows Phone? It is soon going to be possible with the expected launch of a new Windows Phone app.
Microsoft is going to release an app for Windows Phone users that will allow them to control some of the features of the XBOX 360 console from their phones. Blogging about the soon-to-be-launched free app, Microsoft Corporation’s Ben Rudolph said, “The app, which will be completely free for Windows Phone users, is an amazing little tool that will let you find, learn more about, and control the content from XBOX LIVE Marketplace on your XBOX 360.”
The app would allow you to use your Windows Phone more or less like a remote and let you browse XBOX LIVE, select the content, and even play it on your XBOX. This, practically means, that even if the wireless controller or Kinect isn’t around, you could still navigate through the XBOX 360 menu and control the playback of your favorite videos. This is what Ben had to say on his blog about this feature: “Once I selected the content and hit play, the XBOX Companion flips into ‘controller mode’ in which I could navigate my XBOX, or control video playback. The best part here is that controls are virtually instantaneous – easily as fast as using my controller or a TV remote.”
However, no official date for the release of XBOX companion app has been confirmed by Microsoft as yet.
