IDC predicts Windows Phone will surpass iPhone by 2016
In a report, market analysis company IDC has forecast that Windows Phone will be ahead of Apple iOS in terms of sales by the year 2016. Windows Phone will be at the second position behind Android that will be the most popular mobile operating system.
According to the sales figures projected by IDC, the market share of iPhone will drop from 20.5% in 2012 to 19% in 2016. On the other hand, Windows Phone's share will increase from 5.2% in 2012 to 19.2% in 2016. IDC predicts that the sales of iPhone will decrease as the demand for the smartphone would gradually become stagnant.
Market analysts expect that Windows Phone 7 will gain share despite the fact that it is lagging behind other players in the industry. The mobile operating system will be assisted by Nokia’s strong presence in the emerging markets. Also, a new version of Windows Phone 7 that will be based on the Windows 8-kernel, will be launched later in 2012.
