A design patent has been awarded to Microsoft for the slider phones, which Nokia can use to manufacture new mobile phones with unique design. This design of mobile phones is quite different from other regular slider phones. It is unique in the way that its keyboard sits flush with its screen, so that the user can type the text more comfortably, quickly, and easily.
Nokia and Microsoft became partners in the starting of 2011, making Windows Phone a primary operating system for the former's phones. Nokia, which was a leading smartphone manufacturer earlier has now lost its dominance to other smartphone developers. However, with Windows Phone embedded in its smart phones, it has a chance to regain its prominence. On the other hand, Microsoft can in turn rely on Nokia to gain a better share of the mobile market, which is currently dominated by Google and Apple.
Nokia has an experience of several years in manufacturing high quality handsets. It can use Microsoft slider design patent to produce unmatchable slider phones at present. While a lot of smartphones, such as iPhone are full touch-screen capable, some users still like to type their text on a QWERTY keyboard. With a Nokia slider phone having a unique design, Microsoft will get a mobile phone that will specifically appeal the consumers.
With the patent for a new slider design, Microsoft is looking forward to enter into the market of smartphones. While partnering with Nokia to manufacture a new line of unique slider phones, Microsoft may not become the leading name in the industry, but it can undoubtedly provide it a good start.
