Microsoft to announce a tablet with Barnes & Noble
If rumors are to be believed, Microsoft will announce a Windows-based tablet in Los Angeles at a media event on June 18. There are speculations that the tablet will have Windows RT or Windows 8. According to some sources, the tablet has been developed in association with Barnes & Noble. Earlier, Microsoft had entered into a partnership as part of which the company had decided to invest $300 million in a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble. The joint business was named as ‘Newco’.
As far as the technical specifications are concerned, the tablet is for multimedia and entertainment. It will also feature XBOX streaming. The Wrap had reported that the tablet has been manufactured by Microsoft and will compete with Apple’s iPad. But now it appears that the tablet is aimed at the Kindle Fire from Amazon.
Tablets with Windows 7 have not been successful as the OS was developed basically for desktops and laptops. We hope that Microsoft has learnt from its mistakes and now has a product up its sleeves that will make a major impact in the tablet market.
