Microsoft to launch the Surface tablet on October 26
It’s official now that Microsoft’s Surface tablet will be launched the same day Windows 8 will be released, that is, October 26, 2012. This was revealed by Microsoft in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
As per earlier reports, Surface Pro with Windows 8 Pro installed on it will be introduced 90 days after the launch of Windows 8.
Microsoft has not yet announced the prices for the models of its Surface tablets. But company officials have stated that the tablets will be priced competitively.
According to Microsoft’s filing with the SEC,
The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices.
Windows 7 tablets were not that successful and they catered mostly to the requirements of business users. Now with Windows 8, which is more suitable for touch screen devices than Windows 7, the Surface tablets could give serious competition to the iPad.
