Microsoft is in talks with major record firms to develop a new music service for its XBOX and Windows Phone platforms. According to various media reports, the software giant is planning to create a delivery service that would supply music to XBOX and an upcoming Windows-based phone.
“Negotiations are still in a preliminary stage and the two sides have yet to drill down into all the specifics, the sources said. Nonetheless, Microsoft has roughly outlined a service that it hopes could launch sometime this year and include streaming music as well as downloads, the sources said,” reported a popular tech portal.
At present, the Zune Music Pass from Microsoft is available to XBOX subscribers. It is not clear how this new service will be different from the existing music service. Zune Music Pass requires a monthly subscription for streaming and downloading music through XBOX 360, Windows Phone, computer systems, and other devices.
A spokesperson from Microsoft commented on this by saying, “Microsoft does not comment on rumors and speculation.” So, let’s wait and watch until there is something official from Microsoft in this regard.
