When multiple users use a single PC, certain privacy issues may arise. You may not like to share certain things with other users. In case you work from home, you would like to secure your important files from your kids who would use your computer for playing games and doing other stuff. Therefore, it would be really good to have the full folder rights with you so that no one can tamper with your files in that folder. That would avert unauthorized access and will make you feel secure about your confidential and private data.
Here is how to do that. Below you will find some useful tips to password protect a folder in your Windows-7 based PC.
Consider Zip Route
If you are not willing to spend some money, consider the Zip route option. Majority of Zip managers, like the well-liked freebie 7-Zip, allows you to password-protect zipped folder as well as files. Just compress and decompress folders and password-protect it.
Another considerable option to password protect your folder from prying eyes is Folder Lock. This amazing utility allows you to make lockers on your computer where you can securely store folders and files. You can also select the level of security based on your priorities. Once you download this file locking software on your PC, you can make as many lockers as you want.
Every time the locked folder or file will be accessed, administrator password will be asked. The folder or file will be permanently locked unless you do not unlock the folder.
You can also keep your folder protected for FREE by following a few simple steps:-
1. Right-click on the folder you want to protect. Select ‘Properties’ then navigate to ‘Security’ tab and click on ‘Edit’. (New window will pop-up)
2. After that under ‘Group and User Names’ choose the user whom you would like to deny access for a specified folder. In ‘Permissions for Users’ check ‘Deny’ checkbox
3. Click on ‘OK’. When a ‘Windows Security’ window will appear, click on ‘Yes’
4. Again click on ‘OK’. Now the particular selected user from the list would not be able to access the locked folder.
