Browsium® Ion: Run Internet Explorer® 6-dependent applications on Windows® 7

By IYOGI TECHNICAL SERVICES, Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Many companies were reluctant to switch over to the latest operating system of Microsoft Windows 7 because a majority of business applications were designed for Internet Explorer 6, which is not supported on Windows 7. Internet Explorer 6 is not compliant with all browser standards, and hence websites designed for it will not open on upgraded browsers and vice-versa.

Run Internet Explorer 6-dependent applications on Windows 7 with Browsium Ion

But this will not be the case anymore. Browsium, a Redmond-based company run by a team of former Microsoft managers, has come up with Browsium Ion that lets companies run their legacy web apps, which were originally developed for Internet Explorer 6, in the latest versions of the Microsoft browsers (Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 9) that are supported on the latest Windows versions.

Browsium Ion eliminates the need to use the Internet Explorer 6 engine completely. It allows organizations to configure settings in Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 9 that will apply only to specific URLs that need remediation.

Internet Explorer 6 is still used by many companies because many apps such as ERP and CRM, as well as finance kit from SAP, Siebel and Hyperion, which are known as the business lifeblood for many enterprises, have been designed to work solely in Internet Explorer 6. Due to this reason, many companies were not migrating to the latest Windows 7 as they see migration too expensive, time-consuming or too risky.
