Microsoft Internet Explorer has earned a great reputation in terms of its overall performance than other known web browsers such as Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox. However, keeping a web browser user secure against malicious threats, malware and viruses while accessing the Internet, is equally essential.
Recently, an independent report has claimed that Internet Explorer 9 offers superior protection from malware threats than any other web browser. The report has been given by NSS labs, which is a security testing and research group. The report released by the group showed that Internet Explorer 9 with its malware protection feature SmartScreen caught as much as 96% of live malicious threats.
How SmartScreen helps?
SmartScreen incorporates a few tools that secure the users while browsing the Internet. These are:
Anti-malware protection: Anti-malware protection assists to prevent harmful software from infecting your PC. When a malicious site appears, Internet Explorer 9 SmartScreen blocks the website. It can also perform surgical blocks on a genuine site by preventing any malicious content from getting downloaded without disturbing the rest of the site.
Anti-phishing protection: When you enter a website that is supposed to be fraud or seeks to avail personal credentials like passwords, names, billing data, etc., Internet Explorer 9 SmartScreen filter informs you about it.
Application reputation: There are several files that do not require warnings thus they are automatically removed. However, for high-risk files, severe warnings are shown.
In addition to this, SmartScreen works alongwith the Download Manager to notify you against malicious downloads. In case it detects a risky download it gets blocked instantly. Then the Download Manager identifies programs with higher risks so that the user can make a smart decision to run, save or delete the download.
“Microsoft is the most attacked company in the world, so this is something they have a lot of experience with,” said NSS President and CEO Rick Moy.
