Denial-of-service is a new threat that has come to haunt the users of Windows Phone 7.5. It was recently revealed that phones using Windows Phone 7.5 have been facing this error that can lead to a failure in the messaging functions of the phone. After the news breakout, this mobile platform by Microsoft is under constant scrutiny. This fault has been discovered by a person named Khaled Salemeh, who mentioned about the same a lot of times on his Twitter page. Khaled has now sought help from WinRumours to approach Microsoft directly and telling them about the issue. This error is caused when a special SMS is delivered on the smartphone. As the person reads the message, the phone reboots and the messaging function is disabled.
WinRumours tested the SMS on other handsets also, including the ones from Samsung and HTC. It was noted that the SMS works irrespective of the handset but can only affect the working of Windows Phone messaging hub. Another shocking fact that came forth was that even if the bug is sent to the phone through chat messages on Facebook and Windows Live Messenger, its effect would be equally devastating for the messaging services of the phone. While scrutinizing the bug, the website also came to the conclusion that the messaging services are not the only part affected due to this bug. It also ends up locking the device when a message is posted on Facebook by user’s friend, causing the live tile to update. The users facing this problem can do away with the error by deleting the tile as soon as possible.
The bug hampers the working of Windows OS messaging services but does not pose a security threat, according to WinRumours. There’s no way to get rid of the error but if you are already facing problems, the only thing that could be done is a hard reset of the phone wherein you would lose all your important data from the phone.
