Sony® Cuts PlayStation 3 Price from $299 to $249
Sony PlayStation is definitely on the list of top console systems which is being sold worldwide, as is evident from its total sale of more than 51.8 million units till date. Sony PlayStation takes playing to a new level, that's why it's always in demand with gamers worldwide
For all those gamers who wish to own PlayStation 3 (PS3), but find it a bit out of reach, there's some good news. Sony, the owner of PlayStation 3 announced on Tuesday, that the prices for PlayStation 3 gaming console have been reduced to $50. By doing so, Sony hopes to help the 5-year-old gaming system reach a larger audience. The base model now costs $250, and another model which has twice the storage space will cost $300. Sony last reduced the prices of PlayStation 3 when it released a slimmer model in 2009.
Microsoft, one of the main competitors of Sony in the gaming business has not reduced the prices of Xbox 360 since 2009. Considering the price reduction for PlayStation, market analysts are split on whether it will do so this year as a response to Sony. The base model of Xbox 360 costs $200.
Jack Tretton, the president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America has said in a statement that PlayStation 3 is gaining popularity while other competitive gaming consoles are losing attractiveness. He also said that the new price of PS3 will make it more accessible than ever before.
The move of Sony is seen by analysts as a usual part of a game system's life cycle. Most of the game console generations last four to six years, but the analysts predict that motion-detection peripherals like that of Sony PlayStation Move and Kinect for the Xbox 360 by Microsoft, could extend the current cycle.
