Telstra and Microsoft have signed a deal. According to the deal, Telstra BigPond customers are going to experience a faster and improved e-mail service called BigPond with Windows Live. To enjoy this service, all BigPond customers will be required to change their username and password for a smooth transition. From April this year, the 4.2 million BigPond customer e-mail accounts of Telstra will be transferred to Windows Live.
“All new customers will go straight onto the Windows Live platform,” a Telstra spokeswoman said. “All old customers will be migrated over the months ahead (from April/May) and will be contacted directly just prior.”
The Telstra BigPond customers will not have to change their current e-mail addresses, but they will have no other choice than to move to the joint platform or cease their BigPond account if they are not Microsoft fans.
The new service will provide BigPond users with more storage space, Microsoft Office apps, and the ability to edit and share photos and movies. The partnership with Microsoft will also enable Telstra to offer Microsoft Hotmail, SkyDrive and Windows Live to its large number of BigPond mailboxes.
