McAfee® related problems in the Windows® 7
You might receive errors when you are trying to upgrade to the Windows 7 if you are not running the latest version of supported McAfee consumer software. If you have the latest version, you will not experience a McAfee-related error while upgrading to the Windows 7 since the latest version of McAfee consumer software does support Windows 7. The incompatible versions of McAfee security products will be blocked by the Windows upgrade installer and could prevent upgrades to Windows 7. McAfee security applications that are older than those running under McAfee Security Center version 9.11 cannot be installed, as Windows 7 will block them. You might receive one of the errors like the McAfee service center is not compatible or the backup and restore is not supported when trying to upgrade to the Windows 7 without uninstalling McAfee’s security software first. The problems that can occur with McAfee in the Windows 7 system are:
- Local backup is not supported
- McAfee Security Center is not compatible
- McAfee backup and restore is not supported
Local backup is not supported
Almost all of the features and functions will continue to work on the Windows 7, except for McAfee Local Backup, which will not be supported on the Windows 7. When you are upgrading your computer to the Windows 7 it must be notified during the installation process that McAfee Local Backup will no longer be supported on Windows 7. But it will be provided with a link to a landing page with instructions on how to restore existing backup files prior to upgrading to the Windows 7.
McAfee Security Center is not compatible
This type of message is displayed if the upgrade installer determines that the version of McAfee Security Center is older than version 9.11. You could be running version 9.11 or higher of the McAfee Security Center to proceed with upgrading your operating system to the Windows 7. You will not be able to reinstall the McAfee security software if you do not have access to version 9.11 of McAfee Security Center after you upgrade to Windows 7. Check your access to version 9.11 with your vendor before proceeding with the operating system upgrade.
This might be the issue if the upgrade installer determines that you have McAfee Backup and Restore installed, regardless of whether you use it. You could safely ignore this warning if you do not use McAfee Backup and Restore. You may not have received a warning about the incompatibility of McAfee Backup and Restore on the Windows 7 during the upgrade to the Windows 7.
