Fingerprint feature in Windows® 7
Don’t face problems like fingerprint reader displaying a status as unavailable in the Biometric Devices Control Panel.
Sometimes the fingerprint reader shows currently busy because it is being used for enrollment. If you are currently enrolling fingerprint data with a device, it will show as unavailable. You will be able to use the device once fingerprint enrollment is complete.
There might be something wrong with the fingerprint reader. It's probably a problem with the driver. You can try to fix this by re-installing the driver.
To fix the driver, take the following steps:
Make sure you have a genuine driver. The driver should be on a CD/DVD that came with the fingerprint device or system. You can also download the driver from the Internet by visiting computer or fingerprint reader manufacturer's website, otherwise contact the vendor directly.
1. Log on through the administrator account or a user who belongs to administrator group. Open Device Manager by clicking Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Device Manager. Administrator permission is required for this process and if you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Select your fingerprint reader and double-click it.
3. Click the Driver tab, click Uninstall, and then click OK.
4. Install the driver for the device from the CD/DVD or the file that you downloaded from the Internet.
