Connect or disconnect from a network in Windows® 7
The new Windows 7 operating system has the capability of detecting the existing private networks at the time of installation and it sometimes may or may not need any additional network setup. If you are having a computer with the new Windows 7 operating system, then the system has the ability to connect to a network through a dialup, VPN, or wireless connection. In this situation you can choose for connecting to a Network option in the Network and Sharing Center, either for disconnecting from an existing network connection or to create a new connection.
The new Windows 7 offers the way to disconnect from the network to which you are connected. You need to follow certain steps to do so. To begin the process, you need to click on the network name in the dialog box which appears when you connect to a network. You now need to click on the Disconnect button, which will appear in case you want to disconnect from the network.
The Windows 7 operating system will then ask you to confirm your step of disconnecting from the network in the Connect to a Network dialog box. You can confirm this step by clicking on the Disconnect link, and finally click on the Close button to complete this process.
If you don’t want to search for the links and want to permanently add the various network options to your Windows 7 Start menu, you can do so by making certain changes in the network settings. These network options as discussed above include:
- Connect To - used to view or change network connections
- Network - used to open the Network window to see all the devices on local area network
- HomeGroup, which allows you to see all the devices on your homeGroup
For adding such networking options, you need to follow the procedure as right click on the Windows Taskbar so that the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box will open. And then click on the Customize button on the Start tab. Carry on this process by selecting the check boxes for the network options which you want to add to the Start menu, from Connect To, Network, or HomeGroup and then click OK for two times, to close the Customize Start Menu dialog box and to close the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box.
