Windows® 7 Network Sharing Center
Microsoft Windows 7 introduces the newly redesigned Network and Sharing Center, which was first introduced in Windows Vista. Through this article we’ll compare this tool in context of both the operating systems and see if there is any improvement in that included in Windows 7.
Users can access the Network and Sharing Center by opening the Windows 7 Control Panel and clicking on the Network and Internet link, followed by the Network and Sharing Center link. Well, when it comes to look I don’t think there is so much difference between Windows Vista and Windows 7 Network and Sharing Center. But one change that I found in Windows 7 Network and Sharing Center is the view of Active Network option. Windows 7 clearly displays the domain name or which network you are connected to.
In Windows Vista, Network and Sharing Center lists all of your Sharing and Discovery settings on the main screen. These settings have been moved in Windows 7. In order to access them, you must click the Change Advanced Sharing options.
In addition, Windows 7 maintains three separate network profiles such as Home or Work, Public, and Domain, and maintains separate sharing settings for each of the profiles. Another thing that I found very interesting is the screen. It clearly indicates which profile Windows is currently using, so that you will know which of the sharing settings currently apply.
Windows 7 offers the latest and exciting network tool called HomeGroup. This feature allows users a unique way to connect other computers running Windows 7 at a home or in office. With HomeGroup, its easy to share files and printers on a home network. Connect two or more PCs running Windows 7, and HomeGroup will automatically start sharing your music, pictures, video, and document libraries with others in network. HomeGroup is also secure, which allows you to give password to shared files and folders. This feature is available with all the editions of Windows 7.
After comparing this tool in both edition, my opinion is that using Network and Sharing Center is much more easier than Windows Vista.
