Tips to Fix Issues of DSL Connection in Windows® 7
What are the tips to fix issues in DSL Connection in Windows 7?
DSL or Digital Subscriber Line is a technology of transmitting digital data using wires of telephone network. In order to set up a DSL connection, first you need to create an account with ISP (Internet service provider). It is usually a phone company or cable TV provider. Using the modem, the computer is connected to phone. The telephone line is connected to the line port on the modem. The phone line from the wall jack is directly connected to the back of the modem. After installing the modem and router, follow the instructions provided by ISP. In Windows 7, DSL is set up by creating a PPPoE Internet Connection in Internet Explorer. Open the 'Internet Explorer' tab, go to 'Tools' menu and click 'Internet options', then click 'Connections'. In that you will see an option for adding a connection, click it. In that, choose the second Option which says 'Connect using DSL or cable'. This would require a username and password. Now type the username and password and click the 'Connect' button.
Following are the issues that might occur while setting up DSL and tips to resolve it:
- Cable problems
- Router issues
- Driver issues
Most of the issues occurring in DSL connection are mainly due to bad cables. Sometimes the cable might not be firmly connected at both the ends. Connect it tightly at both ends. Check the cable by plugging it into a different port. If it doesn’t work, replace the cable with a new one.
Router issue is another major problem that occurs in DSL connection. Sometimes the router might not work properly which leads to improper Internet connection. Power-cycling the router helps to re-synchronize the DSL signal and the network connection to your computer. For this, turn off DSL router and unplug it. After 30 seconds plug the DSL router and turn it on. Ten restart your computer after 30 seconds. If the router that your system is using is expired, then you need to replace it with a new one.
If there is difficulty in connecting the network in your computer, you have to check whether the driver is installed correctly in your system. Go to 'Device Manager' and under the 'Hardware' tab, look for 'Network devices'. If there is a yellow mark, that means the driver is not installed properly. Then you have to reinstall the driver. Sometimes you will have to update the driver. Also make sure that you have uninstalled the old driver before installing the new driver.
