Windows® 7 Windows Mail
Get to know more about Windows Mail program in Windows 7
Windows Mail is the successor to Outlook Express that was available in the Windows XP version. Microsoft has included Windows Mail which is an e-mail and newsgroup client, in Windows Vista. Windows Mail is not part of Internet Explorer unlike Outlook Express. When Microsoft introduced Windows 7 in 2010, it removed Windows Mail from the operating system and Windows Live Mail was introduced. Windows Mail provides the user the ability to exchange e-mail with other users and you could even join a newsgroup to swap information and files. You would have to configure an e-mail account in Windows Mail to use the features of the application.
Here are the features of Windows Mail and the reason for not including Windows Mail in Windows 7:
- Faster E-mail
- Advanced Filters
- Windows Live Mail
Windows Mail allows the user to find their mails easily. Message are stored in individual files rather than in a single database file. The Extensible Storage Engine allows real-time searching and enhances the reliability of the stored data. In Windows Mail the account setup is not stored in the registry, but in the mail itself. So it is easy to transfer Windows Mail configuration to another computer. You can use multiple e-mail accounts at the same time.
The enhanced spam and phishing e-mail filter in Windows Mail protects personal data of the user. These filters re-route and disable dangerous contents in e-mails. You would also get enhanced protection in Windows Mail as it protects your privacy by blocking remote content. You can read such mails as plain texts. Windows Mail is also added with features like Bayesian junk-mail filtering and top-level domain and encoding blocking.
Windows Live Mail
Window Mail is not included with Windows 7. This allows user to install e-mail programs of their choice from other companies. Also Microsoft is providing a separate mail application called Windows Live Mail. This application can be downloaded for free from Windows Live Essentials suite. Windows Live Mail works with the major e-mail service providers and you could import e mail, contacts, and calendar from Windows Mail into Windows Live Mail. To check whether your Windows 7 is installed with Windows Live Mail, select the 'Start' button and on the search bar type "Windows Live Mail".
