Experience Instant Messaging with Windows® Live® Messenger
The new Windows 7 comes with an exciting new instant messaging feature, called Windows 7 Live Messenger, which allows you to chat with your friends, play games and share pictures with them. For communicating with your friends using the instant messages you should have the contacts saved in the Windows Live Messenger contact list. When you have added a person to your contact list, you will be automatically informed by this program, whenever the person is logged in to the instant messenger program. The procedure of adding contacts in the contact list of the Windows Live Messenger is very easy. In this article, we will focus on how to add contacts to the Windows Live Messenger in a Windows 7 PC.
At the top of the Windows Live Messenger window, you will see a toolbar with a Contacts button. Start with clicking on it, or click on the Add a Contact or Group button. Then, a drop-down menu will appear, select Add a Contact option in that menu. A dialog box will open, in which you have to type the instant messaging address of your friend. For example, the instant messaging address of your friend is firstname.lastname@example.org, then you have to enter this address in the Instant Messaging Address text box. If your contact has a mobile phone number with text messaging service, then you can add the mobile phone number in the Mobile device number text box. Also, enter his or her cell phone number into the Mobile Device Number text box after selecting the country in the Select Country or Region drop-down list (when entering the phone number, be sure to include the area code).
Windows Live Messenger has various categories like Favorites, Family, and Friends and also you can add custom categories. You can categories the contacts added in the contact list by opting a category in from the list of available categories in the Add to a Category drop-down list, before clicking on the Next button.
When you have added a person to the Windows Live Messenger contacts list, an audible alert is played by the program, also a visual alert is displayed in the Windows notification area, whenever the person logs in to his Windows Live Messenger account on his Windows 7 PC. This feature will let you know that the particular contact is now available for instant messaging.
Windows Live Messenger shows you the status of the person by indicating a square icon in green color, that will be displayed in front of the contact’s name in the Windows Live Messenger window. This status will remain unchanged unless the person logs off this Instant Messaging program or change his status as offline.
