Windows® 7 Internet
New useful features of Windows 7 internet
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer once had 95% usage in early 2002 and into 2003. This number has declined in recent years, but with the inclusion of Internet Explorer 8 with Windows 7 the numbers have started to increase. Few of the newly added features are discussed here:
-One Click Favorites
A new feature that Windows 7 Internet Explorer 8 has is called a Web Slice. Several times daily we check the Internet for stock updates, sports scores, weather, traffic, auctions, and emails. Until Internet Explorer 8 we had to do this manually. We had to go to each site and log in and retrieve the information that we wanted. Now with a Web Slice, Internet Explorer 8 can provide that information automatically. What a Web Slice is, is a snippet of a website that you visit frequently. It provides updates for you so you don’t have to keep going back to the same websites repeatedly. If a website is available for a Web Slice, a green icon will show up in the Command Bar. You can click on that icon and you are subscribed to that Web Slice. When new information is available, the Web Slice will highlight itself to let you know that there is new information. It will contain a preview of the information, and when you click on it then you will be taken straight to the web site.
Your Web Slices will save to the Favorites Bar. It will appear across the top of the browser allowing you quicker access to your favorite sites.
One Click Favorites
There is another feature called One Click Favorites that allow you to assign your most visited favorites a button on the favorites bar. You can also add RSS feeds to your Favorites bar. No need for special RSS displays to keep track of, it is all easy and convenient right in your browser.
You can now manage your history by sorting by site name, date, most visited, and order visited. You can also search your history by keyword as well. This goes hand in hand with Tab Groups. They make tabbed browsing easier and more manageable. When you open a new tab, it appears next to the originating tab and is color coded so that you can tell which tabs are related and which ones aren’t. If you right click on a tab you are given a couple of options. You can close the individual tab, or the whole group. You can refresh the tab or the entire group.
