Troubleshooting Installation of Microsoft® Windows® 7 Hard Drive
What are the various ways to fix the problem that may arise while installing a new hard disk drive?
After you have installed a new hard disk your computer recognizes the new disk each time at boot up. When you turn on your computer the basic input/output system should automatically detect the new hard disk. If you plan to use the new hard disk as the primary partition that contains Windows, then you will have to install Windows on the disk before you can use your computer. If you plan to use the new hard disk as a secondary disk you should be able to see the new hard disk drive the next time you start your computer and log on to Windows. After Windows starts, click the Start button, click Computer and then look for your new drive in the Computer folder. The letter assigned to the drive would depend on your computers configuration.
The following are the common problems that may arise while installing a new hard disk drive on a Windows 7 system:
- Computer loses power
- Add a new Internal hard disk
Computer loses power
Improper installation of the hard drive is usually caused due to loss of power during installation. In this situation Windows will attempt to revert to your current operating system. You can continue to use your current version of Windows but some features might not work. Before you try to install Windows again, troubleshoot and eliminate the problems that might have caused your computer to lose power. Check the power cables and the power strips and replace any faulty parts.
This is usually caused by hardware or software that is incompatible with Windows 7. If you have this problem, wait about ten minutes to see if the installation continues. Watch the hard disk indicator often a small light on the computer blinks when hard disk is running to see if there is any activity. If your hard disk appears to be working installation should be in the progress.
Insert the new hard disk into an empty hard disk bay in your computer case and you might need a small screwdriver to screw the disk into your case. The different cases have different ways of holding hard disks. Connect the wide, flat IDE cable from the back of the disk to the IDE connector on the computers motherboard.
