Options for installing Microsoft® Windows® 7
What are the various options for Windows 7 installation?
There are two options to choose from during the Windows 7 installation process, which includes the upgrade and the custom option which replaces your current version of Windows with Windows 7 but does not preserve your files, settings, and programs. It is sometimes referred to as a clean installation for that reason. If you perform a custom installation of Windows 7 you would need to manually reinstall the programs that you want to use in Windows 7. Make sure you have the installation discs and the product keys for your programs as well as the setup files if you downloaded any programs from the Internet. Windows Installer will install the files when the feature is invoked for the first time.
The following describe the various option of Windows 7 installation:
- Safe mode options
- Custom option
- Recovery system options
Safe mode options
Some options such as the safe mode start Windows in a limited state, where only minimum amount of applications are started. If a problem does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes. Other options start Windows with the advanced features which are intended for use by the system administrators and IT professionals. This starts Windows 7 in the safe mode and includes the network drivers and the services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.
If your current version of Windows does not get upgraded to Windows 7, choose upgrade to keep your files, settings and programs from your previous version of Windows. This is the simplest installation option and to learn more about which versions of the Windows could be upgraded to Windows 7. However, the Custom option does not preserve your files, settings and programs. It is sometimes referred to as a clean installation for that reason. You would need to back up your files and then restore them after installation is complete.
List of system recovery system that you could use to the repair startup problems, run diagnostics, or restore your system. This option is only available if you have the 100 MB System Reserved partition created during the installation of Windows 7, or if you have an OEM factory recovery partition instead of a Windows 7 installation disc. If the users have a Windows 7 installation disc then the System Recovery Options are available on the installation disc as well.
