How to reduce Recycle Bin maximum size for storage space efficiency in Windows 7?
Do you want to save space on your hard drive? One way to do this is to reduce the capacity of your Recycle Bin by reducing its maximum size.
You can change the settings of your Recycle Bin to suit the way you work. Windows7 has a fixed amount of space set for the recycle bin. You can however shrink that so your Recycle Bin holds less data and occupies less space on your drive. However, it will also reduce the saving of all files which you may want to recover later after discarding them from your folders.
But, if you are really in need of good space on your hard drive, you can reduce your Recycle Bin’s maximum size. Here’s how you can:
- Right click on the Recycle Bin and select Properties.
- Select your local drive.
- Click the Custom Size radio button and type in the amount of space you want the Recycle Bin to use.
- For example, I am setting it to 2000 MB or 2 GB. You can use whatever size you think would be adequate.
- Click OK.
- If you try to delete a file that’s larger than the size allocated to the Recycle Bin, you’ll get the message to permanently delete the file.
