Different ways to repair network connection in Windows 7

Network connections are very useful for every computer user. If you have more than one computer at home or office, you can interconnect them using a wired or wireless connection. You can share data, Internet and other system resources through network. This saves lots of time and makes data management much easier. Network failures and issues could be very critical and has to be fixed on high priority bases. A network failure could occur due to a network cable, router and switch or hub issue etc. You need to find out what causes the issue and the ways to fix it easily. Once the physical network connection is made, network settings like TCP/IP, services and Internet sharing etc. are configured on the operating system. When network issue arises, you need to know which setting is set work or what configuration is causing the issue. To overcome network issues caused by network configuration, Microsoft has included a network connection repair wizard in Windows 7. You can open up the ‘Network and sharing’ tab from Control Panel and click on ‘Fix a network problem’ to open up the network repair wizard. Next, select the type of connection in which you are experiencing issues such as Internet connection, connection to a shared folder, Home Group, network adapter, incoming connection to this computer or printing issues etc and complete the wizard by following the on-screen instructions. This process fixes network errors caused due to wrong settings or configuration issues. Repair network connection wizard also pops up automatically when a network issue occurs.

Following are some common problems that come up while using or configuring a network connection on Windows 7:

  • No connection issue
  • Internet issues
  • No access to a shared folder

No connection issue

Your network connection could fail due to a faulty network cable, failure in network hub, switch etc. You need to make sure that the network cable is plugged in properly and hub or switch is turned on. If you have network server which authenticates your account before you are granted access to the network, you need to make sure that the server is on and running. You can run the ‘repair network connection’ utility on Windows 7 to fix network errors.

Internet issues

When you have home or office network, you do not need separate an Internet connection for each computer. You just need one Internet connection and you can share it among all users in the network. Sometimes, the Internet connection on client computer fails due to network errors. Client computers might not be able to go online if the Internet sharing settings are not set right. To fix this issue, you need to make sure that your network connection is stable and you can use the ‘Internet connection’ option in the network repair wizard to fix Internet issues. Your Internet connection speed is shared among the computers that are using the Internet connection via your computer. Sometimes, you might experience slow Internet issue if many users are using the Internet connection via your computer at the same time. So, ensure that your Internet connection is fast enough to serve all the network users.

No access to a shared folder

You can share files and folder with other network users. Sometimes, you get an connection error or access denial error when you try to access a shared drive, folder or file. This issue could occur due to network outage or permission issue. So, make sure that your computer is connected to the network and the user account that you have logged in with, has privilege to access the shared folder.

I accidentally picked up a rogue microsoft security essentials on my ACER one d255e that runs Windows 7 Starter.
After my sweat and tears I removed the thing with RKILL and MALware bytes antimalware. But the Rogue MS Security essentials from the start stopped my internet connection. Windows doesn’t see my network adapters and I can’t see my home wireless network. I have tried all kinds of fixes[ from MS help forums but nothing works. Can anything restore my internet connectivity. I think whoever puts out Fake MS SEC ESS should go to prison. It’s a crime to turn my computer into a boat anchor. I don’t know what to do..All the tools in Network and Internet won’t work.

Apparently, the malware has corrupted both the network adapter drivers and the Network and Internet feature. I would recommend you create a new ‘administrator’ user account and reinstall the network adapter drivers on it.
Once done, you can transfer data files by moving all the folders from C:\Users\to C:\Users\.
