In Standby mode, your computer saves all open files and programs, and shuts down most components. To enable Standby mode in Windows 7, click ‘Start' button and go to Control panel. Click on the ‘System and Maintenance’ tab in the control panel and select ‘Power options’. Click ‘Change plan settings’ under the active selected power plan. On the change settings plan window, click on ‘Change advanced power settings’. In this window, you can turn on the hybrid sleep mode.
Use of standby
One of the uses of standby mode is that you could recover the last working state, if the computer suddenly loses power. When your computer enters standby mode, all data in memory is saved in hiberfil.sys file in Windows 7. Standby mode not only enables computer to save power but also allows computer to quickly resume full-power operation when you want to start working again.
To access the power settings window, you need to type powercfg.cpl in the search box. It would bring a window which contains options to change the power settings of your system. You could also access it from the Control panel. Power options contain Basic Power Plan Settings and Advanced Power Plan Settings.
