Windows 7 Start-Up ProgramsTips to change Windows 7 Startup programs

With the release of the new Windows operating system, Windows 7, Microsoft has made several changes on the basic functions and operations. Even though the starts up programs settings are similar in all the operating system versions, Windows 7 saves all the start-up programs in a directory in the local hard-drive. Links are used to start respective applications.

It is possible to make changes to the default start-up programs by following a given stated set of procedures.

How to change start-up programs
Method 1:
On the Taskbar, click the start button, on the pop-up menu select All Programs, select Startup Folder and right click on it. In the pop-up menu, select Open All Users.

This option opens the folder for all users on the computer. Choose Explore to open the folder for the currently logged-in user only. Right-click the folder or file you want started when the computer boots. Select Copy from the menu.

Within the folder, right click on any empty space of the startup folder and click on Paste from the menu list. The program will now open the next time you start the computer.

Method 2:
Click Start menu from the task bar and activate the run dialogue box by pressing Windows logo key + r. Type msconfig in the text box. A System Configuration dialogue box appears. Click the Startup tab. A view of all the programs installed as startup options on your computer will be displayed. Check the boxes of the programs you want to start when you boot the PC. For programs, you no longer want to start; clear the check boxes then Click apply to accept the changes. A restart your computer window will appear. Click yes.

Arising issues in startup programs
The performances of a PC are hugely affected by some applications that have to be initiated at boot-up thus utilizing unnecessary RAM space. These could be icons on the system tray meant to optimize PC use.

What most users do not understand is that nearly all programs you install using the default installation, choose that they should start up when Windows boots. The result is a reduction in the computer performance due to less available working memory leaving a smaller percentage for other programs.

This occurrence can be prevented by making more system resources available by disabling the not-so important applications in the System Configuration window.
