Hibernate feature in Windows 7 is a power management mode which conserves power by powering down the system. In this state the current state of your system is saved to the hard disk and your system would power down. Then when you turn on your system you could read the saved information from the hard disk. While using hibernation, you would require an amount of free space on the hard drive equal to the amount of the RAM installed in your system.
Due to limited disk space
When your system is not having enough hard disk space then the Hibernate feature in your system would fail to work properly. For the proper working of Hibernate feature, your system must have at least 512 MB of available hard disk space. You could check your hard disk space by right clicking on 'My Computer' and click on 'Hard drive' usually C drive to see the available hard disk space in your system.
When Hibernate feature is not enabled in your Windows 7 system then it you won’t be able to use it. Thus if this feature is not enabled in your system you would have to enable it. For that, you would have to open Command Prompt by typing CMD in the Start menu and type powercfg/hibernate on and press 'Enter'. By doing so, the hibernate option in Windows 7 is enabled.
