Windows® 7 remote desktop settings
Know about how to set-up and enable remote desktop in Windows 7.
Remote desktop is a feature possessed by Operating System or a third party software which enables users to connect remotely to a computer at a different location. This feature can be used mainly in business enterprises, if the business enterprise has many branches. Computers in different branches can be interconnected with each other and can be accessed from another computer using a remote desktop. It helps the technician to remotely access a personal computer which is at a distance and the technician can solve the computer problems by sitting in his office itself. Windows 7 has an inbuilt feature for enabling remote desktop. Different third party software are also available, such as log-me in, team-viewer etc, which can be used for remote desktop sharing. Remote desktop sharing can be considered as a real time mirroring of one computer to another using a internal server or an Internet connection.

Enabling Remote Session
For a remote session to take place, first you have to enable the remote access feature in Windows 7. To do so, right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'. Now select the remote tab and then choose the option according to your needs. After that, you can select which users must be given the privilege to access your computer remotely. You can also add new users by selecting the 'Add Users' option. After that, you need to turn off the firewall of your computer as it may prevent other users from connecting to your computer remotely. After disabling the firewall, you have to configure the port 3389 for remote connection. Then you can identify public IP address of your computer which is used by the RDC in Windows 7. Now the remote desktop connection is successfully enabled on your computer.
Steps for enhancing the Performance
Click on 'Start' and then type in the search bar 'Remote Desktop Connection'. Select option where you can see different features. You can select display and set the resolution and depth to an optimized level. After setting all this, you can select 'Local Resources' option. In this section, you can change the audio settings and can select the local resources that are to be shared remotely. You can then choose the 'Experience' tab and enable and disable the options according to your needs. If less options are selected, lesser bandwidth will be used in remote desktop connection.
You can also connect remotely without using a VPN. To do so, click on 'Start' and in the search bar, type 'Connections' and then select 'Network Connections'. Open TCP/IPv4 and then select 'Properties'. Enter the IP address which can be obtained by the command ipconfig/all in command prompt. You can also type in the default gateway as well as subnet mask from ipconfig/all in the space provided. Save the changes and then click 'OK'. Then open a web browser and enter the IP address of the router. After that configure the port 3389 and provide a suitable name and then apply the changes. Now, you can open 'Remote Desktop Connection' and enter the Ip address for connecting remotely.
