Fix Issue of Windows® 7 Unable to Change the Password
What are the reasons because of which password in Windows 7 cannot be changed and how to resolve the issue?
Windows 7 Operating System also provides options for setting password in your system. Setting password in the system will ensure enhanced protection and security of the system from unknown users. You can set passwords for different accounts in the system. The Administrator account has much more facilities, such as to access and modify important files of a system, as compared to limited user accounts. Therefore the Administrator can change the password of a personal account; whereas a personal account user does not have the right to change the password of Administrator account. Sometimes, the password of Administrator account cannot be changed even after login as Administrator. This is because if there is more than one user account in the system, then Administrator logon will appear only in 'Safe' mode.
Following are some tips to solve the problem about changing the password in Windows 7:
- Reset the password using 'Microsoft Management Console'
- Using 'Command Prompt'
- Remove virus files
Reset the password using MMC
If you cannot change the Administrator password after login as Administrator, and then try the following steps. Go to 'Start', and then click 'Run'. In the open box, type 'mmc' and click 'OK' to start MMC (Microsoft Management Console). Now start the 'Local Users and Groups' snap-in. Under the 'Console' Root, expand 'Local Users and Groups', and then click 'Users'. In the right pane right-click the 'Administrator' and then go for 'Set Password'. After that click 'Proceed' in the message box that appears. Now type and confirm the new password in the appropriate boxes, and then click 'OK'.
Using 'Command Prompt'
Sometimes, even the Administrator cannot change the password. In such situations, try enabling the hidden Administrator. To allow built-in Administrator account, click 'Start' and then type 'cmd' in the 'Search' box. Then right click 'Command Prompt', and then click 'Run as Administrator'. Then you will be prompted by 'User Account Control'. Click 'Continue'. In the 'Command prompt', type 'net user administrator /active: yes', and then press 'ENTER'. Then type 'net user administrator
The presence of virus files and malware will also lead to problem in changing the password. Such unwanted files will infect the user account files and causes errors in it. This will prevent Windows 7 from changing the password. Scan the system using antivirus tool and remove the detected files from the system.
