Windows 7 Screen Savers

What does a screen saver mean? What are the settings for screen savers in Windows 7?

A screen saver is a picture or design, which moves on your computer screen, when the computer is idle or not in use. The concept of screen saver dates back to the time when computers worked on cathode ray tubes (CRT). Prolonged display of a screen on computer caused the CRTs to burn, hence this technique was built in it. Modern day computers do not use CRTs, however the practice of using screen savers has become a default feature now. In today’s era screen savers are used for fun purposes, advertisements, information or for security reasons.

Windows 7 also has the screen saver feature and displays a variety of patterns for you to choose from. Windows 7 allows you to make following settings and configurations in the screen saver feature:

1. Turn ON and OFF screen savers
2. Enable or Disable screen saver password protection
3. Allow or Prevent changing screen savers

To access the above screen, right click on the empty desktop and select properties. Then chose the screen saver icon at the right hand bottom corner and you will see this screen.

Turn ON and OFF screen saver
This setting will let you turn on and turn off the screen savers on your computers. If you select none from the drop menu, the screen savers would be turned off and if you select  some option from the drop down menu then the screen saver feature would be turned on.

Enable or Disable screen saver password protection
You can also choose to let your screen savers change once your computer is idle.If this setting is enabled then the computer will prompt you for a password each time you want to access your computer once the screen saver is displayed. This setting will be applicable for all user profiles created on your computer.

Allow or Prevent changing screen savers

Additionally, the screen saver settings give you options for changing the power settings where you can select different power plans for your computer. You can create your own screen savers or download the new ones from the net on Windows 7. Sometimes, the screen saver settings might conflict with some general settings of your computer and might not work appropriately. At such times, contact the dedicated team of iYogi experts for their help and advice and set your settings right.
